PARISH GIVING

IN THIS ANCIENT CHURCH OF OUR LADY AT UDIMORE, GOD’S PRAISES HAVE BEEN SUNG AND THE SACRAMENTS ADMINISTERED SINCE SAXON TIMES.

St. Mary’s needs your help….

Many parishioners may have noticed the adverts towards the back of the Parish Magazine outlining Planned and Painless Giving. We thought it might be helpful to give an outline of the Parish’s receipts and expenditures to show why ‘Giving’ is so important.

In overview, after an individual gives to their local church, the PCC makes a financial contribution to the Diocese (Parish Share): in turn the Diocese pays and houses our parish clergy and provides other services.

PARISH EXPENDITURE

Parish Share

Parish Share is the sum of money contributed by each parish to fund ministry and mission, both at a local parish level and throughout the Diocese. Parish Share provides 80% of the Diocese income and is essential to the mission of the church and without it, clergy could not be supported. The Parish Share is a compulsory payment.

Specifically, Parish Share covers the cost of all our:

·       Clergy stipends;

·       Clergy pension contributions;

·       Clergy housing; and

·       Clergy training.

AT ST MARY’S, TWO THIRDS OF ALL THE PARISH RECEIPTS GO TO THE PARISH SHARE AND IN ADDITION OUR OTHER EXPENDITURE INCLUDES:

  • Church/churchyard expenses

  • Insurance

  • Building maintenance

  • Rectory costs

PARISH RECEIPTS

  • Collections, donations and planned giving make up half of our receipts

  • Income tax recovered make up one fifth

  • Fundraising makes up one fifth

  • Other receipts make up the remainder

We would like to thank everyone who already gives via the PGS or the collection; your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Parish Giving Scheme

The Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) is a direct-debit system, which provides a professional, effective donation management system to support parishes in funding their mission and ministry.

The Parish Giving Scheme is the preferred way of giving by the National Stewardship Committee. The PGS is a charitable company owned by participating Dioceses.

Donations made through this scheme use a Direct Debit. This can be made on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. Each donation is restricted to a parish church.

The scheme allows for the church to claim 25% gift aid on every donation by a tax paying individual, so for every £50 donation, the church actually receives £62.50.

CURRENTLY, IF THE ST MARY’S PCC WANTS TO PAY ALL THE PARISH’S BILLS THEN IT CANNOT MEET THE FULL COST OF OUR PARISH SHARE.  PLEASE HELP KEEP OUR BEAUTIFUL CHURCH SERVICING THE PARISH FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS BY CONTRIBUTING TO THE CHURCH THROUGH THE PGS. Or please contact Jonathan Cornwell (01424 882486 or jonathancornwell@me.com) who can help advise you on the best way to give to the church, whether on an adhoc, monthly or annual basis.
